4 Fun Ideas for Family Reunion Pictures
Family reunions are a fun time to get the entire clan together to relax, catch up with each other, and take some great pictures. In a previous post, we shared seven family reunion photo ideas with you to give you some inspiration of photos you can take of the whole family together and to capture the special relationships between family members. This week, we wanted to share some even sillier ideas for your family photos to get everyone smiling and laughing for some really fun photos. Some of these ideas are from our Family Photo Ideas Checklist. Others are things we've seen on Pinterest or dreamed up ourselves.
1. Group Hug
Instead of taking a traditional large group photo, have everyone form a giant big group hug for your photo. If you have someone around who is outside of the family, have them take your picture from above so they can see all of your faces. If you're working with a tripod, set it up and take several shots. See if you can have everyone face out of the group hug so their faces are turned toward the camera. But even if you can't see everyone's face, you can still get a great photo like this one of a mother and her daughters.
2. Everyone Dancing
Another fun shot that will get everyone in on the action is to have everyone get up and dance. Set up your camera on a tripod and set the timer, so you don't have to be behind the camera and miss the fun. If you are taking pictures on your iPhone, you might use an app like Fast Camera, which will rapidly take many photos in a row. That way you will have lots of shots to choose from when picking your favorite one. Instead of dancing, you might try giving everyone a hula hoop to play with.
3. Create a DIY family photo booth
All you really need to set up a do-it-yourself family photo booth is a good spot (preferably away from the hula hoops), a backdrop, and a camera with a tripod that you can set the timer on. If you want to get fancier, you can invest in a remote shutter so people having their photo taken in the photo booth can choose the exact moment when they want the photo taken. For more instructions and insight into making your own photo booth, read our simple steps for building your own photo booth. Photo booths are a fun way to capture impromptu photos of different family members throughout the reunion, while still allowing you time to visit with everyone there.
4. Play Dress Up
Playing dress up for family reunion photos can go in tandem with a DIY photo booth or stand alone in group photos. Although this does require some planning ahead of time, the result can be a lot of fun for everyone who participates. You might bring a box of silly hats, wigs, scarves, or props to the reunion for people to play with. Lips and moustaches on a stick are popular props these days, and you can find lots of other ideas on Pinterest. Props have the potential to bring out giggles in adults as well as children. Whether you take a photo of someone wearing a prop, or of family members laughing at each other's silly hats, you're bound to get a good shot.
